Chattogram

Chattogram, often called the heart of Bangladesh’s coast, is a city where the mountains meet the sea. It’s a place of vibrant contrasts — the bustling port and the calm waves of the Bay of Bengal, the green hills of Sitakunda and the serene Patenga Beach sunsets. The people of Chattogram are known for their warmth, hospitality, and unique dialect that adds its own melody to the Bangla language.

Currency and ATM

The local currency in Bangladesh is the Bangladeshi Taka (BDT). The exchange rate of one US dollar is approximately BDT 120 (may vary slightly). Most retailers and restaurants in Chittagong prefer cash payments in Taka, although major hotels, malls, and restaurants do accept Visa and MasterCard. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks, airports, and authorized money exchange booths across the city. ATMs are widely available and allow cash withdrawals using international debit or credit cards (a small withdrawal fee may apply).

Weather

In December, Chittagong enjoys some of its most pleasant weather of the year. The city experiences a cool, dry, and comfortable climate, typical of the Bangladeshi winter season. Daytime temperatures usually range between 20°C and 28°C, while nights are cooler, often dropping to around 14°C to 18°C. Humidity levels remain relatively low, and rainfall is rare, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. Gentle breezes from the Bay of Bengal create a refreshing atmosphere, making December an ideal time to explore Chittagong’s beaches, hills, and outdoor attractions.

Electricity and Electric Outlet

Power outlets in Bangladesh are generally of types C, D, G, and K. The most commonly found sockets in hotels and modern accommodations are type C (two round pins) and type G (three rectangular pins, as used in the UK). The standard voltage in Bangladesh is 220V, and the frequency is 50 Hz. Visitors from countries that use 100V or 110V systems (such as the USA or Japan) should use a suitable voltage converter or universal travel adaptor to avoid damaging electrical devices. It is recommended to bring a universal adapter since plug types may vary depending on the building or hotel.
