Prof. Jing Zhang is a world-renowned marine biogeochemist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. With a D.Sc. from the University of Pierre and Marie Curie (Paris VI), France, his research has profoundly influenced the understanding of land–ocean interactions, nutrient fluxes, and coastal hypoxia. Currently a senior professor at the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC), ECNU, he has held visiting positions at MIT, the University of Liverpool, and the University of Antwerp. Prof. Zhang has authored more than 200 papers in leading journals, including Bio geosciences and Global Biogeochemical Cycles, making significant contributions to global coastal sustainability and marine chemical oceanography.

Dr. K. Kathiresan, Honorary Professor

Former Dean, Marine Sciences, Annamalai University, India

Dr. K. Kathiresan is a renowned marine biologist and Honorary Professor at Annamalai University, where he formerly served as Dean and Director of the Faculty of Marine Sciences. A world-leading authority in mangrove biology and biotechnology, he discovered and named a new mangrove species, Rhizophora annamalayana, and documented over 5,000 species in Indian mangrove ecosystems. His groundbreaking research demonstrated mangroves’ tsunami-mitigating capacity and carbon sequestration potential, leading to effective coastal restoration techniques. Dr. Kathiresan pioneered bioprospecting studies that yielded innovative products such as black tea, artificial honey, and anti-cancer compounds from mangrove resources. Ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists and first in India for marine biology and hydrobiology (Stanford University ranking), he remains an influential voice in global mangrove conservation and blue biotechnology.
